Events Updates and Reminders

  • April Events - Grasmere Primary schoolchildren have an exhibition in St Oswald's Church over Easter. This exhibition is all about how they see and understand what it means to be 'English'.
  • April Events - Poetry Readings by Carol Ann Duffy, at 18:45 in St Oswald's from Friday 16th to Sunday 18th April.
  • April Events - St Anne's School Chamber Choir perform Vivaldi's Gloria at 19:00 on Saturday 24th April in St Oswald's.
  • April Events - Wordsworth Trust Poetry Readings, held in St Oswald's Church on Tuesdays. Annual Event with readings beginning at 18:45. First evening is on 27th April and the full programme is available from the Wordsworth Trust.
  • May Events - An evening of fashion by Mouse will be held in the Wordsworth Hotel on 6th May 2010, starting at 19:30 for 20:00. Tickets cost £8 and includes a glass of wine and canapes, raffle and open bar. Hosted by Grasmere WI who are raising money for, 'The Great North Air Ambulance'. Tickets available from The Wordsworth Hotel.
  • May Events - Hawkshead Church is the venue for the Ambleside Choral Society, who will be perfoming Vivaldi: Gloria; McDowall: Magnificat; Handel: Anthem for the foundling Hospital. Tickets cost £7.50 which includes wine, and can be purchased at the door, from members of the choir in advance or ring 015394 35041. Takes place om 8th May 2010 at 19:30.
  • May Events - Debate on controversial will be chaired by Prof. David Jackman in the Tithe Barn on the 12th May 2010, starting at 19:30. Topics covered in this particular debate are voluntary euthanasia, assisted suicide for those suffering from degenerative diseases where no medical treatment is possible. Abolishing poverty by increases in taxation at the upper levels or are there other possible ways to achieve this. Is God a shared vision for Christians, Jews and Muslims, and should we be putting them in a complementary relationship.
  • June Events - Ambleside Rotary Club has organised a concert with K Shoes Male Voice Choir in St Oswald's at 19:30 on Friday 11th June.
  • June Events - Saturday 19th June at 19:30. Concert performed by Carlisle Cathedral Abbey Singers. Organised by Jeremy Suter, Director of Music. Held in St Oswald's Church.
  • June Events - Lakeland Composers Concert organised by Cumbrian Composer Chris Gibbs. St Oswald's on Sunday 27th June at 14:30.
  • July Events - Keldwyth Award Society which is a musical scholarship awarded to an outstanding young musician from Cumbria, every year, have organised the Keldwyth Preliminary Round in St Oswald's on the 19th July. Recipients are selected by competition in two stages, with the preliminary competition taking place in Grasmere at St Oswald's Church in July. Those selected perform a 10-12 minute programme in public in front of three judges whose task it will be to select four competitors to go forward to the final stage of the competition.
  • July Events - Grasmere Rushbearing is to be held on Saturday 24th July 2010.
  • August Events - Wordsworth Summer School has organised Poetry Reading by Seamus Heaney on Sunday 1st August in St Oswald's. Starts at 20:30.
